Parvo Shmarvo
Welcome!
This blog is here to help teach how to care for a dog with parvo. It is also a place to ask questions, tell your personal story, updates, and meet others who love their dogs (or other furry friends),as much as you do! It is a helpful resource, and will include tutorials, advice, and help for other related illnesses your dog may have.
About Parvo virus
The parvo virus is an extremely contagious virus, only effects canines ( not humans,or any other type of animal –cats have a different type of parvo virus).
The parvo virus will strike suddenly. One minute your pup is running around playing and then within a matter of hours,he’s on deaths door. Puppies are the most susceptible to the virus,as well as immuno suppressed dogs. It is essential to have your puppies vaccinated at 6 weeks of age, then their booster shot at 12 weeks, and yearly from then on. One thing you NEVER want to do,is give the vaccine when the puppy actively has the virus. Doing so arms the virus with an army of live parvo virus cells to compound the disease.
There are many signs of your puppy having the parvo virus they are,but not limited to;
-Vomiting
-Diarrhea (which will eventually turn bloody)
-weakness
-not eating
-not drinking
-weight loss (which happens so rapidly,it’s almost unbelieveable).
-extreme lethargy and just a general lack of interest in anything.
There are other symptoms, and your puppy may not display all of the symptoms at first. Vomiting is the first sign.
The best thing to do,is to take your puppy to the vet as soon as possible (that very day). The only chance at beating the virus,is if it’s caught early enough.
Even with early detection and veterinary care and treatment, there is no guarantee that the puppy will live, the vet will tell you that right away. Any vet that promises they can treat, and cure the puppy of the virus ,be very weary of,and know that they are just looking to take your money.
Now,the expense of treating a parvo puppy in the vets office is exorbitant. It can range anywhere from $700 to over $3,000 all depending upon when you take the dog in (like emergency hours),how far along the virus is,the extent of the treatment needed, and other various factors. To compound that, any un-vaccinated dog you have at home will almost always get it as well, and even neighbors dogs,or visiting dogs are highly susceptible to contracting parvo. So the amount it costs to treat you pup with parvo, will times 2,3,4 etc, depending upon how many dogs you have in your home.
There are so very many wonderful dog owners,so many that love their dogs, treat them as their children, and would do anything for them, but just plum don’t have the money it costs to treat their pup.
To date,I have successfully treated many, many puppies/dogs with the parvo virus, and then they survive. I’ve done this every time with a “home remedy”. Many sites will say there is no way to successfully treat a dog with parvo,at home. I have the living proof that it is possible,IF caught early, and IF you follow the instructions I’ll be putting forth on here. There’s no guarantee that the treatment outlined here will cure your puppy, but you have a much.much better chance of getting your dog through the disease, and keeping him/her alive.
